Dr. Carlan Stants

Chiropractic Specialist

Dr. Carlan Stants is a certified licensed Chiropractic Specialist in Canada with a Graduate School Certificate in Pain Management. In addition to his general chiropractic degree, he is a Fellow in the Canadian Chiropractic Specialty College of Physical & Occupational Rehabilitation (CCPOR). He is licensed to practice in Ontario.

Dr. Stants is a member of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, the Ontario Chiropractic Association, the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the Canadian Chiropractic Specialty College of Physical & Occupational Rehabilitation, the International Association for the Study of Pain, The Canadian Academy of Pain Management, the Canadian Pain Society, The European Pain Federation and The National Wellness Institute.

Dr. Stants has over 30 years of clinical experience providing neuromusculoskeletal physical rehabilitation, pain management and independent assessment services. He is a 1988 graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and for 14 years was a Lecturer in the Clinical Diagnosis Department teaching orthopaedic assessment and diagnosis at CMCC. He was a co-Chair and lecturer in the 85 hour rehabilitation certification program offered through CMCC's Continuing Education Department.

 

For 15 years, Dr. Stants served as the President and Chair of the Education Committee of CCPOR and is a current member of the CCPOR's education committee. During this time, he was also responsible for the three-year educational program for Chiropractic Physical & Occupational Rehabilitation Specialists in Canada. He currently is a member of his Specialty College's Education Committee. He also served as Vice Chair of the Federation of Canadian Chiropractic's Chiropractic Specialties Council.

 

He is a current Director and Vice-President of the Canadian Society of Chiropractic Evaluators and holds current certification in the American Medical Association's Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (4th & 5th Editions). He is the Past-Chair of the Canadian Chiropractic Specialties College's Special Interest Group on Pain Management. He is the current Vice-President of the Ontario Chiropractic Reform Working Group.

Dr. Stants is a Past-President of the Association of Designated Assessment Centres and was the inaugural Chair of the Coalition of Regulated Health Professional Associations of Ontario. He has served on four committees for the Financial Services Commission of Ontario dealing with auto insurance reform including the Superintendent's Committee.

He is a past-member of the Health Professionals Advisory Committee of the Champlain Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN). He is the lead eConsultant for "Spine" and "Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation" care services for primary care physicians and nurse practitioners in the Champlain Local Health Integrated Network. He is an active participant and presenter in the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's ECHO Ontario Chronic Pain Program. He is a Certified Facilitator for the Champlain LHIN's "Living a Health Life with Chronic Pain" program.

 

Having practised in Mississauga for over 20 years, where he owned and operated a Ontario Government Designated Assessment Centre, Dr. Stants now maintains a consulting practice in Ottawa providing evidenced informed, client-centered consultations, clinical rehabilitation and management services for individuals with neuro-musculoskeletal and pain conditions.

 

He continues to provide independent defense and plaintiff examinations regarding entitlement to catastrophic impairment, medical/rehabilitation and disability benefits and on medicolegal issues such as malpractice and tort claims.

When not in clinical practice or spending time with his family, Dr. Stants can be found expanding his outdoor bush craft and camping skills.
